The dynamics of animal production at the CNB tends to produce more animals that are not needed for experimentation, but to generate the genetically modified lines necessary to carry out experiments. In this semester, the percentage of animals used in experimentation has increased slightly compared to the previous semester (from 20% to 23%), while the total number of animals produced is very similar. The final destination of the animals used in experimentation has clearly shifted towards basic research on sensory organs.

The degree of genetic alteration presented by the animals used and not used in the experiments is represented in a graph below.

Covering all animals and taking into account whether or not they have been used in research, this is the degree of genetic modification of individuals.
